case study: Delphi/XM
Satellite radio was new & there was a race to market for hand held devices that could be plugged in - to a car, a boom box or just headphones. (earphones were still in development). Delphi had the auto industry connections, while XM was building a strong line up of radio channels and content - together by joining forces they were able to quickly capitalize on this new way of delivering music and news. Products like MyFi were named (by me), packaging was developed that cleanly showed these products and live in-store displays were designed to demonstrate the products to the 'big box' consumer electronics shoppers.
